There's no denying it, the Nissan LEAF EV has quite an electric personality (apologies for the pun). The first iteration of the truly revolutionary electric vehicle was introduced in 2010 as a 2011 model, and the 2012 iteration is already in the wings. Everyone from drivers, to the media to car critics fell head over heels for the EV. And, while most admiration in the automotive industry turns out to be nothing but a…

The young Nissan LEAF just had another first-ever experience. The award-winning EV went to Denmark to compete in the inaugural Oresund Rally - a competition open exclusively to electric vehicles (EVs).

The Danish EV rally was dramatically different from events in which conventional petrol cars compete. There were no dirt storms or aerobatic-like moments. Rather, the main criteria judged at the Oresund Rally was timing, which kept things pretty calm.

Competitors were tasked with passing established…

The Nissan LEAF EV is gaining traction with over 10,000 units sold to date. Already Nissan is elevating LEAF owners' experience. Specifically, the Japanese automaker has launched a new Blackberry-and Android-compatible app.

What exactly does the app do? Let us first say, it's far more comprehensive than many apps carmakers have made available, which primarily consist of a user's manual, or serve as a platform to buy additional "gear". Rather, the new…

Nissan launched the "Drive Electric Tour" in fall 2010, giving interested drivers across the country the opportunity to feel the difference of the pure-electric LEAF EV first hand. Needless to say, consumer interest far exceeded Nissan's humble expectations. Approximately 50-thousand test drives were logged by March 27, 2011!

In an effort to give people who didn't get the opportunity to participate in the tour, a chance to get behind the wheel as well…

A Sun-Powered Nissan LEAF?

Right now, the Nissan LEAF EV runs on pure electric power. No gas-station stops required. No carbon emitted. These are just some of the many reasons the media and consumers are so enamored with it. But if you think the current LEAF is as good as it gets...think again.

Yes, the Nissan LEAF is considered one of the greenest vehicles available, and has been since before it was even released less than a year…

U.S. production of the Nissan LEAF was expected to start late in 2012, at the Smyrna, Tennessee plant. Unfortunately, the aftershock of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11 might just force the company to push the date back a bit.

"On March 11 every operation stopped, so all the resources that were in place [to begin manufacturing the LEAF in the U.S.] were used to restore Japan," explains…

As David Bowie would say, there are some serious "cha-cha-changes" to Nissan's 2012 model-year lineup. The second-largest Japanese automaker announced their plans last week and Nissan Sunnyvale has been chomping at the bit ever since, wanting to share the news with you.

Automakers of all levels are working toward claiming a stake in the electric car (EV) market. However, by releasing photos of a supped-up Nissan LEAF tuned for the race track (officially dubbed the LEAF NISMO RC), Nissan is proving they're still on top.

Developed by the design geniuses at Nissan's Global Design Center in Japan and NISMO (Nissan's motorsport group), the 2-door prototype LEAF NISMO RC has the power to accelerate from…

The internationally acclaimed Edison Awards are named after the famous innovator, Thomas Alva Edison. A tribute to his continuous pursuit of excellence and inspiration to drive the U.S. to the forefront of innovation, creativity, ingenuity, and global mobility, they're among the most honorable awards an automaker can receive.

As you can image, we're elated to report Nissan walked away from this year's Edison Awards with a Bronze. That's right, within…
