The Nissan LEAF EV is gaining traction with over 10,000 units sold to date. Already Nissan is elevating LEAF owners' experience. Specifically, the Japanese automaker has launched a new Blackberry-and Android-compatible app.
What exactly does the app do? Let us first say, it's far more comprehensive than many apps carmakers have made available, which primarily consist of a user's manual, or serve as a platform to buy additional "gear". Rather, the new Nissan LEAF app offers users the convenience of checking their battery level, an up-to-date snapshot of estimated driving range, the ability to control the EV's climate, and even activate charging - anywhere, anytime.
How might these functionalities be applied to real life? Imagine you're flying home from a business trip and have to head out for a meeting first thing in the morning. With the new Nissan LEAF app, you can ensure the EV is charged and ready to go while on your layover, eliminating that one-more thing you need to do when you get home.
Leaving work on a 90-degree day? Simply pre-cool your LEAF from your office. Or, pre-heat it on a particularly chilly morning. And, with real-time charge-level updates, you can rest assured you won't forget to plug in and potentially find yourself inconveniently stranded on the side of the road.
Speaking on the decision to introduce the app to Nissan LEAF owners, Trisha Jung, Director, Vehicle Connected Services, Nissan North America said, "Nissan understands that telematics and other communication services are important for consumers. By providing accessibility and functionality to the Nissan LEAF through all major smartphone platforms, we are truly delivering 'Innovation for All'."1
