It's not just consumers who recognize the Nissan JUKE as a model that stands out from the CUV crowd. Nissan does, too. In fact, they're trying to play up the JUKE's uniqueness by infusing it with key components from the dramatic, sporty Nissan GT-R Super Car (i.e., the 530-hp, 3.9-liter, V6 engine; six-speed transaxle; RWD driveline; prop shaft; 20-inch alloy RAYS).
As you can tell, the design is focused primarily on performance. That said. It's not focused on agility alone. To keep prospective passengers safe, Nissan has engineered the industry's first-ever super CUV with a roll cage.
To enhance the sporty look of the JUKE-R concept, the Japanese automaker has even opted to keep it visible from within the cabin. You certainly won't see that in the standard 2011 JUKE CUV! Nor will you find the Nissan JUKE-R concept's authentic race seats and five-point harness seatbelts.
Why did Nissan decide to bring elements of the acclaimed GT-R to the JUKE CUV? Well, as Paul Willcox, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing Nissan explains they recognized the potential of the JUKE to achieve higher levels greatness. "The Nissan JUKE is one of the most exciting cars on the market today," he says. "...[It] lends itself perfectly to a sports derivative and JUKE-R explores that territory. Equally at home on the road and track, JUKE-R showcases two of the most exciting cars in our range and highlights the technical innovation that drives Nissan."1
